Rainbow Stromatolite (RS1)
Notes specific to this specimen: This is one of the original discovery pieces, collected by us in August 2025. It is characteristic of all the variety of colors found in this site. We’ve never seen such a variety of colors of stromatolite from a single site. It reminded us of all the colors of Arizona petrified wood – known as “Rainbow Wood” – and this became the source for our naming this new discovery “Rainbow Stromatolite”.

Iron Stromatolites (ME11)
Notes specific to this specimen: Beautiful deep red agatization in these cross-cut colonies attest to the classic origin of this specimen as being from the old Mary Ellen Mine in Biwabik, Minnesota, the type locality for the Biwabik Iron Formation. The mine shut down over 50 years ago. We find these specimens in the old discard piles that surround the old pit. *This specimen comes with a Certificate of Authenticity and Origin.

Gunflint Chert (GIS11)
Notes specific to this specimen: This is a fantastic specimen! Multiple very clear stromatolite colonies throughout the specimen. All the more impressive because it’s from the world-famous Gunflint Iron Formation. This piece is from our original discovery in 2025. Beautiful deep red colonies with a natural black halo unlike anything we’ve ever seen. Polished with brilliant shine on front face only. Back and edges are naturally rough.

Minnesota Thomsonite (MNT001)
Notes specific to this specimen: Rare dense accumulation of nodules in matrix, from what was known as a “Bonanza” zone in the “Pink Pit”. Colors varied from pit to pit in the mine. The Pink Pit was the largest and most accessible pit and was right in the center of the Thomsonite Mine, adjacent to the parking area. On rare occasions we would mine into a “Bonanza” which was a zone especially dense with nodules. This piece has a sawn flat bottom with smoothed and polished front and natural rough back. It has a very bright, large single nodule on the top, sticking out of the matrix with a brilliant polish. It could be removed and cut for jewelry.
